This review is from: Savior NCSF55 Solar Pool Pump and Filter System (Lawn & Patio)
I've had my original filter system off for 6 weeks now and my pool is still crystal clear. My backyard isn't that big so there are sun obstructions early morning and evening but the unrelenting texas sun is able to drive this little guy to its maximum potential. The high efficiency panel runs the filter in excess of 6 hours each day. It's half the size of my 60W hobby panels. I'm going to try and upload a picture to show it's size and the quality of my pool water with just a single Savior taking care of my 35000 gallon pool. They are only rated for 11k gallons. If i see any cloudiness i will gladly pick up another one.It has already 1/4th paid for itself in electricity savings. That's not including the cracked pipes i don't have to use/repair anymore nor the water we were wasting from the cracks. It isn't small but it takes up less room than having an extra inflatable mattress in your pool. It doesn't hurt a thing to take it out of the pool while you are using it. Once not in direct sunlight it just goes to sleep. The motor is amazing, it pushes a jacuzzi-jet-strong column of water straight down. This jet ends up doing a good job of pushing any debris on the bottom of the shallow end down to the deep end reducing my vacuuming chore by half. I can't wait to see what accessories they come up with that might work from that. It's practically silent, I can only hear when i swim under it. If i'm not in the pool i have to touch it to be sure it's working. Love it, my only wish is that it would mow the lawn too. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful

This is a fantastic product invented that will save you money each and every month off your electric bill. The Savior Solar pool and filter system is one of a kind and i love that its not costing me anything to operate it. It totally runs off of energy from the sun. I have to admit, i was pretty skeptical at first but after i put it into the pool and let it do its thing i was convinced that i made the best decision and i'm happy i did. I currently live in Glendale AZ where temps here get on average 115 degrees during summer months and i was having to run pool pump 10-12 hours a day. Now i'm down to just 2 hours a day and pool still looks like i've ran pool pump all day. I check water levels at leslies pool almost every week and every thing is fine. Would highly recommend this to anyone who owns pool or spa. If you really want to save some money you really need to get this ASAP!!!

As soon as the Savior arrived I threw it in my green pool. My pool pump stopped working and I only had the Savior to rely on. After a few days my pool was still green. I was about to return the product but I kept thinking that it got such great reviews that I might have been doing something wrong. I thought I put enough chemicals in the pool. When I finally decided to test the water I realized that the problem was not enough chemicals. Within 4 hours of balancing the chemicals in the pool the green color faded. The Savior has been running continuously for 10 days obviously only when the sun is out. It runs 9 hours a day here in California during the summer months. My pool is crystal clear! Cleaning the product could not be any easier. Can't wait till the Robotic Cleaner is available as a vacuum cleaner which is 100% solar powered too! You can look through the website at naturalcurrent.net to get more information about the product.

This review is from: Savior NCSF55 Solar Pool Pump and Filter System (Lawn & Patio)
I admit to being a bit skeptical, since it's at most a 55W pump. My regular pool pump is 1100W. That means I should need 22 of these to do the same job. However, it really does move a lot of water. The reason is the same as why variable speed pool pumps work. Most pool pumps waste a lot of energy due to friction and back pressure in the system. Since this sits right in your pool, friction and back pressure are negligible. The question in my mind was: should I get this or a variable speed pool pump? They cost about the same. Pluses for this device are: - no installation (or installation cost) - just drop it in the pool - less wear and tear on my expensive pool cartridge filter system (expensive to replace filters) - less often having to clean my pool cartridges (which are big and clunky and hard to clean) - it's cool (let's face it - that's the real reason you want it) For variable speed pumps, you still need to run at full power for a couple of hours per day to run the pool cleaner, then it runs on lower power the rest of the day. So buying the savior is like converting your current pool pump to variable speed - but you don't have to install anything. At some point my pool pump will wear out. At that time I may replace it with a variable speed pump, but that day will be further in the future because of this device, and even once I have a variable speed pump, the savior will still be saving me money, just not so much. I just bought it a month ago, and it's winter now, so it only gets sun a few hours per day. I am running my regular pool pump 2 hours per day to do skimming and to run the pool bottom cleaner. I'm going to reduce it further until I find the minimum run time for cleaning and algae control. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

it was missing a screw that I found a replacement at a local hardware store so no big deal but it also came with no instructions that I could find and I would have loved to had some , thought I was supposed to be able to shut the pump off but can't figure out how to without just letting the solar battery die, so that is not good, would like to have instructions. the man who owns this company just called me and explaned a lot to me ,there is no battery just runs when the sun shines and no switch. Was thinking I had seen something about one when I ordered it but when I looked back at the information I didn't see anything about it and since you just put it in the water and let it run there is no real reason for instuctions, just put it in and let it go, thanx for the prompt call back with information.

It filters and circulates the pool water even on an overcast day. I think it will definitely help reduce my electric bill because it is working during peak-rate hours. The seller was extremely responsive when I had questions. The only downside I have encountered is that in my pool it tends to become stuck against the wall at times, requiring a push to keep it moving. All things considered it was a good purchase.

After setting up an 18 ft. Diameter intex pool by myself, and looking at the unopened box with the pump that came with the pool, I decided to see how the Savior would do all by itself, today is day six and the water is still clear with nothing but the SaviorNo clorine, no floatron (which I have on hand in case of algae or other problems) but so far the Savior has been great.. No electricity, no cord to trip over and no loud noise, no clorine smell, just relaxing sounds of summer. I highly recommend this wonderful product. When I had questions about the Savior, the owner called me up personally and was helpful and obviously cares about his product and customers. Highly recommend. Ten stars. |

And the inventor takes all the calls himself! Nothing like a business man that stands behind his product!

I have a 19,000 gallon in-ground pool and the product works great right out of the box! You have to clean the two filters every other with a garden hose to remove the deposits the filter collects but it saves me from having to run the pool pump four days out of the week. I am very pleased with the product and recouping my investment from saving on electricity costs each month.

I've been using the Savior for about a year now and I absolutely love it! I live in Texas and my 11,000 gallon pool gets 6+ hours of sun a day. The Savior works so well at keeping the water clean, I only run the electric pump that came with my pool for a couple of hours at night. I love that my pool water is pristine week after week and I'm saving money on my electric bill. Its easy to take care of and amazing to see how much dirt comes out of the filters when you clean them. Its genius! I love it!! Any questions or concerns that I've had have always been answered by the owner/inventor personally and with a level of customer service that is practically extinct these days. Thank you for a great product!!!

This review is from: Savior NCSF55 Solar Pool Pump and Filter System (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased the Savior 1100 Solar Pool Pump last month. The solar pool pump keeps my water clear along with the Floatron ionizer. I am totally impressed on the performance that it gets running constantly when the sun shines. I live in the desert where all I get is sun! It is truly a real energy saver. Only maintenance I need to do is clean the three filters when they look dirty. The Savior just keeps on purring & purring, purifying my pool water. I am thinking of getting another one for my spa! It's truly a God-sent of an investment. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to reduce their energy bill!

I have an 18,000 gal in-ground pool which is obviously too large for this alone. With this I only run my main pump 3 days a week (Wed, Sat & Sun) which is more than sufficient. I bought this last year when I opened the pool and it is going on its second year just as strong as its first. I recently blew my capacitor in my main pump and this "Savior" kept the pool clear and balanced for a full 8 days while I waited for the replacement cap. It was starting to get hazy on the bottom of the deep end on day 7, but it is a pool twice the rating of this thing. I can skip the Wednesday running of the pump, which is just to skim the surface (which this does not do unfortunately), because I'm too lazy to use the hand net. It has definitely lived up to its name. I just wish there was a skimmer attachment.

My Savior, well not quite! Works as advertised however 11,000 gallons a day is a stretch of the imagination! The REAL bilge pump is rated at 1100 gallons per hour. I believe there are very few places on earth you are going to get 10 continuous hours of direct sun to keep this 12 volt pump working at full 100% power. The speed of the pump is directly related to the amount of sun falling on the solar panel. A small amount of power in the early hours of the morning and increasing until mid day and then decreasing in the afternoon. The smallest shadow, even just the size of your hand nearly stops the pump. Reality I probably get between 5,000 to 7,000 gallons a day but it does collect fine debris on the filters. I note there are Unicel filters at $40 and cheap no-name filters at under $20 and since there is no-name on them I'm sure I got the cheap ones since half of the paper pleats collapse into each other reducing the filtering area and making it hard to clean. Bought this to reduce the number of hours I run my DE filter and save energy. Also as a back-up system when my other filter is down for service. I will give it 4 stars for being a good idea but falls way short of its claim to filter 11,000 gallons a day.UPDATE Nov 2011: The manufacturer was critical of my comments and said I should not quote figures and data I was not sure of and he is quite right. So I took the time to test the output of my savior to see how many gallons per day is realistic. My test results below, your test results will vary:
Solar Powered pool filter and pump "Savior" Natural Current
Test REAL 12 volt bilge pump rated at 1,100 gallon per hour
Nov 23rd 2011

685 gal/per/hr (2,592 lit/per/hr) 9: 20 am partly sunny thin high clouds 77F
932 gal/per/hr (3,528 lit/per/hr) 10:30 am sunny and clear 79F
980 gal/per/hr (3,708 lit/per/hr) 12:00 noon sunny and clear 86F

Cloudy rest of the afternoon tests postponed!
Nov 24th 2011
742 gal/per/hr (2,808 lit/per/hr) 9:25 am sunny and clear 75F
913 gal/per/hr (3,456 lit/per/hr) 10:55 am sunny and clear 78F
923 gal/per/hr (3,492 lit/per/hr) 12:00 noon sunny and light haze 81F
866 gal/per/hr (3,276 lit/per/hr) 1:30 pm sunny and clear 84F
557 gal/per/hr (2,106 lit/per/hr) 3:25 pm sunny and clear 87F
End of Test
Measurement were taken in liters and converted to gallon and any fractions were rounded up.
I was disappointed the pump never reached it's rating of 1,100 gallon per hour but then again this is an off-the-shelf bilge pump that would pump water from your boat haul not suck water thru three large spin-on filters. The manufacturer assumed the rated pump could work full power 10 hours per day and give 11,000 gallon of filtered water per day but this is just not realistic. I believe for the cost of this machine it should come with the better quality Unicel filters and not these no-name filters. Filters should be cleaned at least once a month to insure good filtration.
In Summary: still a very good machine, a great idea however,... be realistic about how much filtration this Savior can do in one day.
Update July 17 stopped working, wiggled the wires nothing, dead in the water,... now what??? Let's see how it takes the manu to help me?
Update: The next day I received an email telling me how to replace the pump with links to Amazon to buy a new pump and filter etc. I ordered a new RULE pump and noted it has no warranty of any kind. Upon receiving the new pump I installed as per the directions put it back into the water and is working again.
My Savior went in the water Oct 12, 2011 and stopped working on July 17 2012 so it worked for 9 months. I believe these pumps can last longer if they had a continuous 12 volt power supply but since it is wired direct to a solar panel this causes the voltage and motor to rev up and down continuously due to varying weather cloud conditions putting excessive wear on the motor. Let's see how long pump number 2 lasts?

After 5 days I am moderately impressed with the Savior. Even though I have a pool that is much larger than the Savior is designed to support I bought it in hope of being able to reduce the use of my pool pump.In my case this does not fully replace my pool equipment but is a great addition that can reduce the time spent running the filter and manually cleaning. Because this floats in the pool and the filters are mounted underneath it does not clean items floating on the surface as a skimmer does. Also it cannot help clean things that have settled to the bottom so you will still need an automatic pool sweep or to manually swep. What it really does well is clean the items suspended in the water, it seems that the spinning action can help disrupt the water aiding the cleaning process.
Note that on sunny days if as much as 10% of the panel is blocked from the direct sun the pump will slow or stop. On cloudy days this seems to be less of a problem.
Initially I found this was getting hung up in the floating hose for my pool sweep. I adjusted the 90' elbow on the pump outlet so it spins more in place and this seemed to fix the problem. This also helped prevent it from getting hung up on the rocks on the edge of my pool.
I have noticed that the water in the pool has cleared up quite a bit after 5 days of use despite several windy days and a little rain. So far I am happy with my purchase. It would be better if there were a slight redesign to perform some skimming action and I would like to see a higher volume model for my large pool.

UPDATE
After a few months I continue to be quite happy with the solar cleaner. I have cleaned the paper filters a few times, they really do pick up quite a bit of very fine particles. In my situation I think about once a month will be about right to clean the filters. I just recently had a small problem with the pump on the unit acting up, I used the Natural Current web site to submit the support request, I received an immediate call back providing great support. They demonstrated a very strong customer service attitude and a strong desire to make sure I was happy with the product and any issues quickly resolved.

i had the product since last august 2011 and it has met my expectations for an independent pool pump run with solar cell panels. it behaves like a 12 volt battery and gets the job done. my only concern for those who are going to buy the product is that the bilge pump which probably comes from Rule bilge pumps can break down and is not covered by 1 year warranty. nor is there clear instructions how to replace the bilge pump. michael the sales person has been responsive to answering questions but i feel there should be more instructions and an easier and more reliable way to replace the pump. lets hope that company addresses this problem in the near future. perhaps having an easy way to replace the bilge pump other than cutting and splicing together and binding with black tape . i used marine connectors and crimped the ends and heat shrinkable sheaths to get the job done .

Purchased one in April through amazon. A couple of the screws holding the unit together were loose and fell out. HOWEVER, after I tightened them the unit has been working great. It filters the pool during the day for free. At night I run the built in pool filters and cleaners. The pool is over 85 degrees so normally I would have to filter 8-10 hours a day. I have not needed more than an additional 5 hours of filtration and cleaning from my standard AC units and the pool is spotless. With the right bilge pump it cranks.

We bought this item in May and it's been working as expected. Good product without much of maintenance. I found it mostly useful to control the micro particles in water such as algae, dust, etc. We clean the filter once a week, no other maintenance needed and it's running autonomously. You will still need a polaris to clean up the leaves settled at the bottom. Overall it has reduced our pump time down to 2-4 hours a day.
